Topia
TOPIA is a multidisciplinary, role-play game designed for grades 6 to 12. Inspired by a short story, players develop their understanding of equity issues and the role of water in their lives by engaging in drama pedagogies. Then, players find themselves involved in a town experiencing a water tragedy. Each player takes on the role of a member of the community: e.g., parent, factory worker, business owner, elder, or health inspector. Through a number of game structures, the group must work together to deal with the crisis. It becomes apparent that different priorities and points of view incite conflict. The group must work together toward a consensus to solve their problems. This role-playing game provides opportunities for participants to develop their understanding of science, geography, math, and communication skills.
